If you haven’t visited Armory Lounge NY, you really are missing a hidden, Schenectady gem. Once you walk into the lounge you are met with a vibe that is chill and relaxing. All of the artfully mismatched appointments have been carefully selected and lend to the elegant and yet casual atmosphere.
Back in the days when the building was an active Armory, today’s Lounge was reserved and named for our Veterans. Today, it is filled with natural sunlight shining through the long, ceiling height windows. Much of our furniture has fun stories behind it. For example, the sumptuous, curved blue velvet couch that adorns the far corner of the room – was purchased by one of the owner’s daughters. As it happens, it was too big for her space, so now this beauty is yours to enjoy. Our locally made and sturdy, reclaimed wood café tables were aquired from a young entrepreneur who shuttered his State Street business to pursue his West Coast dreams.
A fan favorite is the monitor behind the bar. There was a video made for a local group having a 50-year reunion that one of our owners made. One busy weekend we were playing with the technology that allows the videos and put in the USB with a 70’s themed slide show, with a bar full of guests. They loved it and it was quite the trip down memory lane! That coupled with our 70’s soundtrack, lend a fun element to the area.
We would be nothing without our great and dedicated staff! We are an eclectic mix – a recovering banker, a yoga teacher, an educator, a retired finance professional, a full-time mom and student, a membership coordinator, and a gymnastic coach. You will find them to have great personalities, hardworking and welcoming. They are happy to prepare you one of our generous half side artisan sandwiches, one of our appetizers or mixing up a tasty adult beverage!
Our Lounge is available to rent for your private event – business or personal. We have also converted the former mess hall into The Officer’s Club. Which is our largest versatile event space. It, too, has a great vibe and endless possibilities. We have hosted small training groups, galas, award dinners, fundraisers, baby showers, retirement parties and our first wedding will be in August! We also host and plan our own events. Did someone say fun Murder Mystery? How about a Comedian on a nationwide tour who will be HERE? Our event coordinated has partnered with another event professional to bring foodie pop ups. What is that? Check out our website for the details.
We are extremely community minded and love working with our community partners. We have partnered with MOPCO Improve Theatre for our Murder Mystery events. (Stay tuned for another BIG announcement)! We believe in giving back to our local communities and not for profits. One way we do this is to host monthly Battle of the Bartender events, where guest bartenders ‘battle’ each other to see who can get the most tips. All these tips go directly to the organization. We craft a Specialty Cocktail that we donate a portion of the drink proceeds back to the organization.
